Shadows House: Season 1 Episode 2
I am really enjoying this, but in an unsettled sort of way. This series has a way of making things incredibly eerie while appearing nothing but cheerful on the surface. For example, there's the part where all the living dolls are cleaning and singing. They are programmed to enjoy slavery. It makes me shiver. I hope Emilyko eventually develops more agency and finds out more truth about the Shadows House. I think that's literally the focus of the series, though, so I shouldn't be disappointed. All the reveals in the second half of the episode were intriguing-- we got to see what a normal living doll does as a Shadow's "face." We also heard a bit about Shadow Debuts and the Great Grandfather. Emilyko is already questioning. I can't wait for more!
Spy X Family: Episode 2
Episode two served to introduce the character of Yor the assassin. So far, I love this character. It's nice to have an adult female character around my age, especially in anime, where most female characters are very young. Yor is voiced by Saori Hayami, a seiyuu with a truly magical voice. I know her from Re: Zero and Snow White with Red Hair.. The action parts of this episode were a lot of fun. The humor was good too. And of course, Anya was adorable. Nice episode.
Summertime Rendering: Episode 2
This was more intense than I was expecting, but that made it fun. Besides suspense and violent thrills, there seem to have been some huge hints about the bigger mystery given in this episode. To be honest, I haven't even started putting them together yet. I am already involved with the story, and I'd rather not think about it too hard and guess all the good twists. But I might change my mind and see if I can work out the mystery later.
One thing I thought was eerie but cool was how "human" the Shadows were when they were talking to each other. They interact just like regular people, and they even have knowledge of different countries and cultures. I wonder what those things are. I'm intrigued. The only thing I didn't like about this episode was the way it continued to sexualize Mio. It's a shame that shows like this make us put up with such perversion just to enjoy a good thriller. It makes me pretty mad.
Tokyo 24th Ward: Episode 2
Compared to the buildup and excitement in the previous installment, there was nothing very interesting about this episode. It was pretty boring and a little bit annoying. It felt very weird and tropey to me how Asumi was apparently this angelic, perfect being who did everything for everyone. Meanwhile, Mari is left with the role of grieving but mildly jealous friend. It's all been done before. None of the drama in this episode was original. The graffiti painting of the school was kind of cool, however. There was no action in this episode, but perhaps next time will pick up the pace.
Hoshi no Samidare (Lucifer and The Biscuit Hammer): Episode 2
For most of this episode, I felt disappointed. There was so little comedy compared to last time. I'm watching this show because I think it's funny and absurd; not because I wanted to see actual emotional struggles. However, toward the end of the episode, I was glad I kept watching, because the dynamic between Samidare and Yuuhi is really heartwarming. I love them both now, but especially Samidare. I still hope there will be more funny content later on, but the serious stuff is alright too, as long as Samidare is there to be our princess.
The Devil is a Part-timer! Season 2: Episode 2
I don't have a lot to say about this episode. It wasn't anything special, but it also wasn't bad. I love the art and animation in this anime. The voice acting is also great, and Alciel/Ashiya is funny. Most of the humor surrounding Alus Ramus was predictable and overused. But I don't really care. I do wonder who Alus Ramus really is. Hopefully, we'll find out soon.
Sasaki and Miyano: Episode 2
It was a little harder than usual for me to focus, but I still managed to enjoy this episode. Once again, it was mostly just cute and peaceful stuff. This is definitely more of a iyashikei than a traditional romance. That's fine with me. I am wondering how the series will stretch itself into 12 episodes if it's only episode 2 and Sasaki is already so interested in Miyano. I hope that when Miyano starts to fall in love, it will be believable instead of feeling forced.
Tomodachi game: Episode 7
Another stupid episode of a very stupid anime! But the stupidity within this episode was dialed down a bit compared to last episode. As I predicted, Tenji isn't gay. Big surprise. It's not like I expected an anime to use a gay kiss for shock effect and not even attempt some representation. Totally not. Anyway, it seems like Shiho might be a bad apple. I'm mildly interested in seeing her fill the antagonist role. Manabu is still disgusting and annoying. I'm curious how the new girl and Yuichi will interact. I'll keep watching for more stupid moments. What can I say? I'm a masochist.
